From the quiet county road you enter the estate down a sweeping driveway lined with Aspens, River Oak and Ash trees designed by Jones and Jones Landscape Architects. In the family since 1931, this quintessential island retreat home from the 1940s was updated with a master suite addition designed by Edward Carr.
The main level houses the spacious kitchen with duel fuel 48″ Viking range and stainless counters, the dining room looking west to a stone terrace, and the living room with wood burning fireplace opening to the patio and gardens. This shoreward home has one main floor bedroom with ensuite bath. On the mid level is a large family room and corner office plus two bedrooms (one with private view deck) and a bath. Up a curving wood staircase is the master suite with three walls of windows for territorial and marine views. Under the house is the temperature controlled wine cellar.
LODGE, GARDENS AND BEAUTIFUL GROUNDS
Designed by architect Edward Carr and reflecting his philosophy of creating homes in harmony with the land, the 2000 square foot Lodge is reminiscent of structures in Moran State Park which were an inspiration to Carr. The floor to ceiling wall of windows on the south wall frames the lawn that flows down to the cove beach on West Sound. A dramatic floor to ceiling Snoqualmie stone fireplace anchors the east wall of the great room. The main floor has two bedrooms with ensuite baths flanking the open plan kitchen and dining area. Up a wood staircase is the loft with walls of built-in bunks, a pool table and another bathroom.
Out the back door of the Lodge is the fenced kitchen garden with raised beds featuring vegetables, berries and flowers. A new irrigation system was installed in 2018.
DOCK AND BEACH
A rare private dock with a pier on pilings, metal ramp and 35′ float is tucked into the tip of Massacre Bay. Two private buoys can accommodate more boats in the protected cove. Stairs from the lawn provide access to a lovely secluded cove.
CARETAKER’S HOME, GARAGES AND SHOPS
Also designed by Edward Carr, there is a 2300 square foot, three bedroom/three bath caretaker’s home with south facing decks above a large shop, gym, and six car garage. Other outbuildings include the gate house with boat storage and another garage with half bath.
