The Barn/Gallery showcases sustainable design in a two bedroom/two bathroom waterfront residence on 3.5 acres facing southwest over a meadow to the pristine San Juan Channel. The great room spans 24′ x 44′ with unobstructed floor to ceiling windows. Corten steel frames the roof and walls. Ferrari-red kitchen with Euro appliances, porcelain backsplash and tile counters. Custom wood burning fireplace/media cabinet fabricated from raw steel is recessed into a wall of reclaimed wood. Rain harvesting plus high producing private well, rain garden, SIP construction, automated LED lighting control, high speed fiber internet, HRV & heat pump technologies, EV charger. The siding planks were cut from the floor joists of the original house which was milled from the land itself. They were carefully removed and transported down the road to a neighbor’s sawmill to be reshaped into what you see here. If left untreated, they will continue to age to a beautiful silver patina The result is a tight, energy efficient house combining the best of old and new.
A 1970s era home was carefully deconstructed and the existing home created by the owner architect and interior designer. No detail is too small for their full attention. Published in OBJECKT International, Dwell Magazine and on several online Architect designed websites.
