Orcas is home to Moran State Park, the largest public recreation area in the San Juan Islands, with over 5,000 acres of forest and 30 miles of trails.
The Land Bank’s Turtleback Mountain Preserve is a refuge for wildlife on the west side of Orcas with over 1,576 acres land. The trails are steep but the water views are sublime.
Obstruction Pass State Park is the wallflower of the local parks–a 20 minute drive from Eastsound Village and less than ten minutes from Olga or Doe Bay. Hike just under a mile through big firs, cedars, and madronas to a gem of a secluded beach at the mouth of East Sound. Discover for yourself this quiet treasure.
Crescent Beach Preserve at the head of East Sound is now open for strolling, kayaking, and beach combing. A wooded trail leading from the parking area on the east end of the beach leads northward to Mt. Baker Rd.
